You should understand after Lesson 1:
- Humans share the same traits, but there are variations in some of the traits that they share
- Some human traits have only two variations (e.g., gender, overlapping thumb, widow's peak, earlobes)
- Some human traits have many variations (e.g., hair color, eye color)
- Traits can either be inherited (passed down from parents) or acquired (traits influenced by environmental interactions)
Previously learned concepts (6th or 7th grade) needed for this unit
- The important work of the body takes place in the cells
- All body systems are made up of cells
- Body systems function and interact to provide cells with what they need to do the work of the body
Based on class discussions:
- We get our traits from our parents or grandparents, or past family.
- Our traits come from our genes which we get from our parents
- Instructions for our traits are found on our genes.
